Drawing of a tooth

Drawing of a tooth large
This little sketch (LDGSL/614/3/211/5) is of a tooth of a fish from the Middle Division of the Old Red Sandstone, and comes from the collection of the Reverend Duncan Robertson, Findhorn River, Morayshire, [watermark 1834]. The drawing was made by Robertson’s sister, ‘Miss Robertson’, who may have copied it from another by local artist Jonathan Stiven (now lost).

Although the drawing had been sent to Agassiz, the Reverend Robertson was not a member of the Society. However he and his sister, with whom he ran a private boarding school for boys, were friends with Fellow John Grant Malcolmson and were inspired by him to form their own fossil collection (also now lost) from the local Findhorn beds.
