We will see the famous geology reception desk, the Lower Library, Arthur Holmes Room, William Buckland Room, Janet Watson Lecture Theatre, Council Room and the Upper Library, as well as many historical paintings and decorative building stones, and, of course, a copy of the famous William Smith’s 1815 geological map of England and Wales as described in Simon Winchester’s book The Map that Changed the World.

Time

We will meet at the foyer reception area in Burlington House at 1.45 pm for a 2 pm start. The tour is approximately one hour and will be led by Sarah Day, the Geological Society’s Earth Science Communicator.

There is a maximum of 25 participants for this guided tour with priority given to Fellows, Candidate Fellows and Juniors of the Geological Society who are members of the Home Counties North Regional Group.
