Geological Society Business Forum

The Geological Society Business Forum (GSBF) is a Professional and Scientific Interest Group founded in 2011. It aims to raise the profile of geosciences and the Geological Society in the business world and in society at large and at the same time help support the Geological Society in its scientific endeavours. The group has organised over 30 geoscience business events encompassing a number of issues inclusive of ethical investment, trust and transparency, critical minerals, insurance, drilling risks, exploration, commodity price super-cycles, electrification, diversity and social mobility, energy transition, and net zero.

The world is facing complex energy challenges. Geoscience related businesses have an essential role to play in the production of the energy that fuels our way of life and the materials we rely on. GSBF delves into the detail of the energy transition’s practical realities, from technology, innovation, skills and education to policy and legislation. The events bring together geoscience topics in the context of the business world, galvanising discussion to highlight what needs to be done to further the development of geoscience for businesses to meet future energy and material needs. Its members include industry subject matter experts across all aspects of geoscience.
