Associated Societies

The Geological Society of London has a deep rooted history of collaborating with other organisations to further enhance the knowledge and understanding of the Earth.

In keeping with this tradition, the status of Associated Society was established in April 2014. The intention of this new initiative is to provide a consistent framework for managing our interactions with organisations with which we partner, and to provide a more welcoming mechanism to forge new relationships to the benefit of our science.

Associated Society Status will provide a vehicle for working with other learned societies and professional bodies on activities across a wide range of areas, including;

  • Organising scientific meetings/conferences
  • Developing professionalism through activities such as accreditation of courses and training programmes, professional validation, mutual recognition of qualifications and professional status, adopting common codes of conduct, etc.
  • Policy and outreach
  • International leadership
  • Capacity building
  • Provision of impartial and authoritative advice or information
