For many in the geosciences, fieldwork is a vital – and enjoyable – part of the research process. But problems can arise when small teams of people travel to remote areas, and studies suggest that women are particularly at risk of experiencing negative events.

In this panel discussion we will ask several women to share their own experiences in the field before starting a discussion of how the geoscience community as a whole can ensure that fieldwork is accessible and rewarding for everyone.

Panelists

  • Dr Pallavi Anand - Lecturer at the Open University
  • Dr Bethan Davies - Senior Lecturer at Royal Holloway University of London
  • Professor Dame Jane Francis - Director at the British Antarctic Survey
  • Dr Sam Giles - Junior Research Fellow at Oxford University
  • Dr Sarah Gordon - Managing Director at Satarla
  • Moderated by Robbie Gries, President of the Geological Society of America
