Professor Danielle Schreve, a palaeontologist at Royal Holloway University of London, is interested in what lies beneath the surface of the city, and what it can tell us about London's long geological history. From hippos in Trafalgar Square to Neanderthals on the banks of the Thames, she explains how the Thames has shaped the history of Britain and the city of London, and how even in the densest urban environments, evidence of past climates and ecosystems lie just beneath our feet.
