Geoscience Internships and Placements

Internships are important for education, training, professional and personal development. In recent years, in order to pursue a professional career, it has become increasingly necessary to gain experience through an internship, in addition to academic qualifications.

Participating in Internship Programmes is a great way to promote your organisation among students and to develop a direct link with the organisations the Geological Society is working with.

Whatever your organisation’s area of work, if you can offer a placement that will give a student an insight into your company doing real work that is of benefit to the organisation, we would love to hear from you.

The Society is working in partnership with two separate organisations that focus on different areas:

The Social Mobility Foundation (SMF) is a charity which aims to make a practical improvement in social mobility for young people from low-income backgrounds by providing opportunities and networks of support for 16-17 year olds who otherwise don’t have the means or networks to fulfil their potential.

Eligible students typically are high achievers having attained at least 5 A grades at GCSE or 5 A/B grades at National 5.

University Geoscience UK is the subject association of geoscience departments/schools based within universities in the British Isles (including geology, applied geology, Earth science, geophysics, geochemistry and some environmental science).

University Geoscience UK is looking to establish a central repository of all internships on offer by companies and institutions within the field of Geoscience.

We are looking for internship placements in small, medium and large organisations and from as many diverse areas, and regions, as possible. If you think you or your company are interested in providing an internship for either University Geoscience UK or the Social Mobility Foundation please fill out this short survey and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible.

If you have any further questions, or proposals, please get in touch with us on [email protected]
