Some 6 years ago the Engineering Group of the Geological Society set up a Working Party to update our knowledge and understanding of glacial and periglacial terrains and materials. The history of these environments typically results in complex ground conditions with vertical and lateral variability creating a high degree of uncertainty. Their recently released report provides a state of the art review of ground conditions associated with former quaternary periglacial and glacial environments and their materials, concentrating on ground models that would be applicable to support the engineering geological practitioner.

Martin Culsahw's presentation will explain the background to the book, summarise its contents and illustrate a number of case histories that highlight various aspects of glacial and periglaciated environments.  This is a must attend for all earth scientists, particularly ground engineers, engineering geologists and geomorphologists working in these terrains.

Note: AGM takes place at 6:30pm
