We will assemble for 19:00 on London Road, just outside Leicester Railway Station, and take a walk along Charles Street and Belgrave gate to the Clock Tower. We will then continue along Gallowtree Gate and Granby Street to the Town Hall Square, and if time permits, head towards some of the older parts of Leicester. Along the way we will view a range of sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks used as building stones, and we shall see numerous examples of how improvements in transport over time have led to the use of more and more exotic types of stone.
