Back in our 2012-13 season, Dave Wilshaw and Pauline Cooke delivered what our own reviewer called “a tour de force lecture on the Cheshire brinefields”.

At that time, both Dave and Pauline worked for Wardell Armstrong, who are retained by the Cheshire Brine Subsidence Compensation Board in order to manage their ongoing obligations under the 1952 Act. Dave is now enjoying a well-earned retirement, and Pauline is the Earth Sciences Teaching Fellow in the Foundation Year at Keele University, but both are still retained on an ad-hoc basis by Wardell Armstrong, for their brine and other expertise.

Some 7 years later, Pauline is returning to reprise some of the geology and mining information, and a brief history of the Board, for those who missed it the first time. Pauline will also give an update on the work of the Board, in particular the improved CON29M Cheshire Brine Search, and she may comment on a certain ribbon development.

Sharing the platform will be Catherine Rowell, who, inspired by that first lecture, is currently undertaking research for a PhD at Keele University, based on legacy mining issues in the Northwich area.
