Event details
Join us at the Geological Society's ground-breaking conference on Planetary Geoscience.
'GeoFutures' is the Geological Society's new conference series focusing on 21st century geoscience and the solutions that geoscientists provide to global challenges.
Successfully launching in October 2023, the inaugural meeting focused on 'Digital Geoscience', with 366 people registered across two days and gaining support from the UK Government Office for Science and companies such as NVIDIA alike. The meeting led to various new research collaborations across delegates, hackathons to address gaps in the sector, and a special issue of our ES3 journal to follow, focusing solely on Digital Geoscience themes.
In 2024, GeoFutures moves towards one of our other four strategic science themes, Planetary (Geo)Science, and aims to bring together researchers, engineers, policymakers, funders, space agencies, and government scientists. The conference will feature contributions from UKRI and the Government Office for Science, as well as the UKPF, the LARES consortium, and the UK Cosmochemistry Analysis Network (UKCAN).
Thanks to support from the GSL's Futures Fund, and support from the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS), the meeting will be free for all GSL and RAS Fellows and student members (fee for non-Fellows). The two-day hybrid event will be held in person and will also be available remotely for an accessible and international audience.
Key areas covered:
- The Intersection of Missions & Sample Science
- Sample Collection, Curation & Analysis
- Mission Science: mission highlights, key updates, new mission proposals
- Remote Sensing & Solar System Exploration
- Citizen Science and the Future of Planetary Geoscience
Sponsors
A special thank you to the Royal Astronomical Society, UKRI-STFC, and The Geological Society of America for their sponsorship of this event.
Organisers
The Planetary Science theme is led by Director of Science and Engagement at the Geological Society, Dr Natasha Stephen. Bringing a range of experience to the event, the organisers are passionate about Planetary Geoscience and are focused on creating an environment where attendees can engage with current research as well as prepare for future work. The team are well connected across the planetary geoscience landscape, including academic institutions, policy organisations, funders and space agencies.
