Event status:

This course is aimed at practicing engineering geologists and geoenvironmental engineers involved with desk studies, site characterisation and ground model development. It will provide an overview of geospatial site appraisal and introduce the variety of digital data sets that are available for such assessments. Topics covered will include the use of LiDAR data, optical imagery and data acquisition platforms, and InSAR (Radar) techniques and applications.

11.00 – 11.30    Introduction to the context, scope and objectives of the day. Some comment on the needs of the community, the regulatory backdrop for civil engineering / site investigation and the advantages provided by EO/remote sensing technologies. Reference to the slow uptake of these technologies and our perception that some encouragement/assistance is needed to facilitate uptake.

10 minutes break

11.40 – 12.20    LiDAR and applications (from ground & airborne platforms, covering techniques, data and case studies illustrations)
