GeoarchaeologyGeoarchaeology

Richard Payne and Holly Rodgers from Wessex Archaeology will describe how geoarchaeology is a multi-disciplinary approach which applies the techniques and subject matter of geography, geology, geophysics and other Earth sciences to an understanding of the archaeological record. It can be employed at all scales, from the interpretation of an individual deposit on an archaeological site, through to the reconstruction of entire landscapes and their environments.

On a typical development site, geoarchaeologists will work alongside GI teams to gather data and samples in order to identify, characterise and map deposits and areas with archaeological potential. Richard and Holly will use case studies to show how they use that GI data to assess and evaluate sites, produce predictive deposit models to effectively target further work, and ultimately reduce archaeological risk to a project.

Please arrive from 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start.
