Use of the Library


Who can use the Library?

  • Society Fellows, Candidate Fellows, employees of Corporate Affiliates

The following may use the Library for Reference only:

Members of the 'Courtyard Societies' by arrangement with their Librarians:

  • Linnean Society 
  • Royal Academy of Arts
  • Royal Astronomical Society
  • Royal Society of Chemistry
  • Society of Antiquaries

Members of the following organisations (on production of proof of membership):

  • AAPG
  • Geological Association of Canada
  • Geological Society of America
  • Institute of Geologists of Ireland
  • Institution of Materials Mining and Metallurgy

Members of the following organisations (concessionary visitors' fee applicable)

  • Mineralogical Society of Great Britain and Ireland

Visitors to the Library

Non-members (not falling into the above categories) can use the Library for reference services only and will be issued with a Visitor’s Ticket. Tickets can be purchased for daily, weekly, monthly or annual use at the following charges (inclusive of VAT):

Visitors are required to complete the Library Registration Form for Non-Members and provide ID / proof of address.

Non-members who are accompanied by a Fellow do not need to make an appointment but the above Private Research charges will apply if using Library materials.  Fellows may bring visitors to use the Fellows' Room free of charge.
