In assessing whether links to third party resources should be included in the Lyell Centre, the Society’s staff and Information Management Committee consider a number of factors, including the following:
- The resource in question must be of scientific and/or historical interest to the Society’s Fellows and others in the Earth science community
- Its source must be authoritative
- It must be consistent with the interests and values of the Geological Society
- A significant amount of content (though not necessarily all) must be available free of charge to Fellows
- It must meet reasonable standards of functionality and presentation
- Management of these links by the Society’s staff must be practical and affordable
