The Virtual Library aims to enhance access to information resources for the geological community by providing an access point for internet resources selected by the Library staff.
Offsite access to full text from 23 e-books on the Dawsonera platform is now available to Fellows of the Society. These books are on a variety of different subjects including sedimentary basins, stratigraphy, hydrogeology, tectonics, engineering geology, and palaeontology.
Athens login needed for offsite access to these e-books.

Geological atlas of Africa
This is the first attempt to summarise the geology of Africa by presenting it in an atlas and to synthesize the stratigraphy, tectonics, economic geology, geohazards, geosites and geoscientific education of each country and territory of the continent. Furthermore, the digitised geological maps are correlated and harmonised according to the current stratigraphic time table. The atlas aims to contribute to capacity building in African Earth Sciences and to initiate research and economic opportunities by providing a database of basic geological background information.
Landscapes and landforms of Ethiopia
Paolo Billi (ed.)
Ethiopia’s geomorphology varies from highlands, marked by high volcanoes and incised by deep river gorges, to the rift valley lakes and lowlands below sea level with characteristic landscapes which are unique in the world. Landscapes and landforms of Ethiopia highlights all these topics including essential information about geology and tectonic framework, past and present climate, hydrology, geographical regions and long-term geomorphological history.
Natural Resources in Afghanistan
Shroder, John F.
This book details Afghanistan's physical geography — climate, soils, vegetation, water, hazards, and basic geological background and terrain landforms — together with details of its natural resources, ethnic problems, and relevant past histories. It couples these details with the challenges of environmental degradation and new environmental management and protection.
New Offsite E-journal Access
Offsite online access to Geological magazine vol.134(1997) onwards is now available to Fellows of the Society using an Athens login. is one of the oldest and best-known periodicals in the Earth Sciences. It publishes original papers, review articles, rapid communications and discussions about all aspects of the geosciences. It covers petrology, geochemistry, palaeontology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, structural geology, geophysics, and geomorphology, and it includes contributions on volcanology, marine geology, glaciology, palaeoclimatology, palaeoceanography, geochronology, biostratigraphy, geohazards and Earth history.
Journal of paleontology
Offsite online access to Journal of paleontology from vol.86(2012) onwards is now available to Fellows of the Society using an Athens login. Journal of paleontology is published for the Paleontological Society and contains original articles and notes on the systematics, phylogeny, paleoecology, paleogeography, and evolution of fossil organisms. It emphasizes specimen-based research and features high quality illustrations. All taxonomic groups are treated, including invertebrates, microfossils, plants, vertebrates, and ichnofossils.
Offsite online access to Paleobiology from vol.38(2012) onwards is now available to Fellows of the Society using an Athens login. Paleobiology is published for the Paleontological Society and contains papers dealing with any aspect of biological paleontology. Emphasis is placed on biological or paleobiological processes and patterns, including macroevolution, extinction, diversification, speciation, functional morphology, bio-geography, phylogeny, paleoecology, molecular paleontology, taphonomy, natural selection and patterns of variation, abundance, and distribution in space and time.
Offsite online access to Tectonics from vol.16(1997) onwards is now available to Fellows of the Society using an Athens login. Tectonics presents original scientific contributions that describe and explain the evolution, structure, and deformation of Earth's lithosphere. There are papers on field, laboratory, petrological, geochemical, geochronological, geophysical, remote-sensing, and modeling studies.
