Journal cancellations
In line with the recommendations of the 2010 Library Review, Council has agreed to reduce the net operating costs of the Library by a further £35k in 2013, through a combination of new income and savings on expenditure. In order to achieve this, the Library identified 26 journal subscriptions for cancellation, based on the following criteria:
- Journals which were duplicate subscriptions.
- Journals which would be gifted in future.
- Journals which would be received on exchange in the future.
- Journals with less than three uses per year.
- Journals which are free online.
- Journals which the relevant specialist group had indicated it did not wish to retain.
Candidate journals were reviewed by Council and their cancellation approved in November 2012:

- First Break
- Geophysical Prospecting
- Geoscience Canada
- Global Tectonics and Metallogeny
- Ground Engineering (includes supplement European foundations)
- Ground Water [sub includes Ground Water Monitoring and Remediation]
- Journal of Geoscience Education
- Mineralogy and Petrology
- Neues Jahrbuch fur Geologie und Palaontologie, Abhandlungen
- Ofioliti
- Oil and Gas Science and Technology
- Palaeontographica Canadiana
- Palaeontographica. Abteilung A, Palaozoologie, Stratigraphie
- Periodico di Mineralogia
- Proceedings. Geoscience Information Society
- SEG Newsletter
