Event information

The talk will be given twice on the same day, once at 3pm and once at 6pm – please note that if you would like to attend the talks, the 3pm matinees generally have more availability. The talks will be exactly the same in the afternoon and evening.

Entry to the lectures is free to all, but by ticket only. To obtain a ticket please contact Naomi Newbold (naomi.newbold@geolsoc.org.uk) and state whether you would prefer to attend the 3pm or the 6pm lecture.

Sue Loughlin

Biography

Dr Sue Loughlin has been Head of Volcanology at the British Geological Survey since 2008. She leads a multidisciplinary team of scientists studying different aspects of volcanology from volcano seismology and remote sensing to volcanic risk. Dr Loughlin worked at the Montserrat Volcano Observatory as Deputy Chief Scientist between 1997 and 1999 and then as Director from 2004 to 2006. Her particular interests include explosive volcanism, lava dome eruptions, environmental and social impacts of volcanoes and science into policy and procedure. Current projects include the NERC-funded ‘Global Volcano Model’, an EU FP7 project ‘European Volcano Observatory Space Services’and a NERC-funded consortium ‘Characterisation of the Near-Field Eyjafjallajökull Volcanic Plume and its Long-range Influence’.
