Reciprocal Arrangements

Reciprocal arrangement with the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)

The Geological Society has agreed a reciprocal arrangement with AAPG whereby Chartered Geologists can apply for certification with AAPG, and vice versa, via simplified application procedures. AAPG members who wish to apply for Chartered Geologist status must be Fellows of the Geological Society and conversely applicants for certification with AAPG must be Members of AAPG (see www.aapg.org for information).

Chartered Geologists who wish to apply for Certified Petroleum Geologist, Certified Petroleum Geophysicist or Certified Coal Geologist status with the AAPG should download the documentation and:
Applicants should send the completed application form with the annual certification dues to the Fellowship Department, Geological Society, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London, W1J 0BG. We will then sign the form to certify that you are a Chartered Geologist and forward it with the payment to AAPG.

Certified members of AAPG who wish to apply to be Chartered Geologists with the Geological Society should download the documentation and:
Applicants should send the completed application form with the application fee to the Division of Professional Affairs, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, PO Box 979, Tulsa, OK74101-0979, USA. The AAPG will then certify the form and forward it to us.

Reciprocal arrangement with the Institute of Geologists of Ireland (IGI)

The Geological Society has agreed a reciprocal arrangement with the IGI whereby Chartered Geologists can apply to be Professional Members (PGeo) of the IGI, and vice versa, simply by writing to the organisation with which they require professional certification. This organisation will then check that the applicant holds the necessary qualification with the other organisation. Successful applicants will be required to pay the relevant annual fees of both organisations. For more information about the IGI see www.igi.ie.

IGI Professional Members who wish to apply for Chartered Geologist status must be Fellows of the Geological Society. There is no application fee for Professional Members of IGI to become Chartered Geologists, but if they first need to apply for Fellowship, they will need to pay the Fellowship application fee.
