Title: Channel Flow, Ductile Extrusion and Exhumation in Continental Collision Zones
Series: GSL Special Publications
Author/Editor: Edited by R D Law, M P Searle and L Godin
Publication Date: 07 December 2006
Sale Publication
Description: This Special Publication provides an overview of the geodynamic concepts of channel flow and ductile extrusion in continental collision zones. The focal point for this volume is the controversial proposal that the middle or lower crust acts as a ductile, partially molten channel flowing out from beneath areas of over-thickened crust, such as the Tibetan plateau, towards the topographic surface at the plateau margins. In this volume thermal–mechanical models for channel flow, extrusion and exhumation are presented, and geological and geophysical evidence both for and against applicability of such models to the Himalayan–Tibetan Plateau system, as well as older continental collision zones such as the Hellenides, the Appalachians and the Canadian Cordillera, are discussed.

Title: Mechanisms of Activity and Unrest at Large Calderas
Series: GSL Special Publications
Author/Editor: Edited by C Troise, G De Natale and C R J Kilburn
Publication Date: 30 October 2006
Sale Publication
Description: Through a combination of case studies and theoretical modelling, the papers in this book address a number of important issues. These include: the conditions necessary to produce and release the large volumes of magma erupted during caldera formation; the processes that limit the behaviour of precursors to eruptions; whether pre-eruptive precursors can be distinguished from those driving unrest without an eruption; and the optimum procedures for designing hazard maps and mitigation strategies, given that eruptions may occur across a wide area.
