Our 2012 Shell Lecture series takes as it's theme 'Geology in the age of Man', recognising that humans have caused significant changes to our planet. Our first Shell Lecturer, James Jackson, explains why he is interested in researching current geological processes, rather than delving into the past, and why this can help vulnerable communities protect themselves from earthquakes. And Mike Stephenson of the British Geological Survey explains why carbon capture and storage continues to be a high priortity for those researching how we can mitigate the effects of rising carbon emissions.
