FAQS for Fellows/Members of the Geological Society

I am unable to see the Fellows Area tab after I login
I am trying to access Online CPD Reporting but I am seeing a message that this is only available to Fellows
I have updated my address in the Fellows Area but it is not saving my changes
I have not received my copy of Geoscientist
I have not received a copy of the journal as part of my membership subscription

I have forgotten my username or password

If you’ve forgotten your username or password please click on 'Forgot Username or Password' on the Login page. Please complete your email address along with your username or password – the missing information will be emailed to you.

If there is an underscore in the username, e.g. john_2477 - please enter an underscore (not a space or a dash).


I have forgotten or never received both username and password

Please email your name to membership@geolsoc.org.uk to receive a reminder of your original details. Please allow several working days for a reply.

Non-Society members can register again. You will receive an email confirming your registration and including your new username – your password will not be emailed to you for security reasons.


How do I change my username and/or password?

Once logged in, you can update any user information via the 'Edit user details' link in the My GSL area.


How do I notify you of a change of address?

As above, once logged in you can update any user information via the 'Edit user details' link in the My GSL area.


How can I subsbribe to the e-newsletter?

You can sign up online for the main Society newsletter and our Bookshop newsletter by going to www.geolsoc.org.uk/newslettersignup. Signing up for one newsletter will not automatically sign you up to the other. To receive both newsletters you must sign up to both separately.


I would like to view the William Smith Map, do I need to arrange a viewing?

The William Smith map can be viewed during office hours, 09:30-17:30 weekdays only. No appointment is necessary but please see www.geolsoc.org.uk/smith_map for full details.


How do I purchase items from the Bookshop using member discounts?

GSL members - please login using your Society username and password to view and purchase at the member price.

AAPG / Geological Society of America / SEPM / GA / IAVCEI / Micropalaeontological Society members - please register by clicking on 'Login' and then 'Click here to register'. When registration is complete please login and click on 'Bookshop Users Area' and then 'Update'. Use the Ctrl button on your keyboard to select or de-select the relevant member type(s) and then click 'Save'. You will then be able to view and purchase at the relevant member rate when applicable.


I am unable to see the Fellows Area tab after I login

All Fellows are pre-registered on our website. If you are a Fellow and you have created any other user profiles please refrain from using them as these will not recognise your Fellowship status and you will not have access to Fellowship services or discounts. Please email your name and Fellowship number to membership@geolsoc.org.uk to receive a reminder of your original details.


I am trying to access Online CPD Reporting but I am seeing a message that this is only available to Fellows

Online CPD Reporting is only available to logged in Fellows. All Fellowsare pre-registered on the site and should not re-register as your Fellowship status will not be recognised and you will not have access to Online CPD Reporting. Please email your name and Fellowship number to membership@geolsoc.org.uk to receive a reminder of your login details.


I have updated my address in the Fellows Area but it is not saving my changes

The Fellows Area information you update sends a notification to staff as it requires some internal processing, we then update this information weekly. There is a note about this on the update details page which you completed. Your updated details will appear shortly.


I have not received my copy of Geoscientist

If you have not received your monthly copy of Geoscientist, please email membership@geolsoc.org.uk.


I have not received a copy of the journal as part of my membership subscription

If you have not received a copy of your subscribed journal, please email membership@geolsoc.org.uk


How can I make my CV visible?

Once logged in, you first need to make sure that your CV status is set to 'Make my full contact details visible to all (Fellows and public users)” - you can do this by clicking on 'update' under 'Current Fellowship Directory / CV status' in the Fellows Area. If you click on 'View my CV', you will then be able to make your CV visible if you scroll to the bottom of the page, select edit and the tick the box 'Make my CV visible to other users on the website' and then click save.


How do I change my visibility in the Fellowship Directory?

Once logged in, you can update your visibility in the Fellowship Directory by clicking on 'update' under 'Current Fellowship Directory / CV status' in the Fellows Area. When you have selected your preference, click 'Save' for the changes to take effect.


How can I change the journal I receive as part of my membership?

If you would like to change the journal you are currently subscribed to, please email membership@geolsoc.org.uk
