This black tie event was held in the Central Hall (picture below) of the Natural History Museum, London, on 13 November 2007, the precise 200th anniversary of the Society's foundation. The Geological Society of London was inaugurated on 13 November 1807 at a dinner at the Freemasons Tavern, Great Queen Street, Covent Garden.
The evening encompassed a champagne and canapé reception followed by a fully inclusive four course dinner. The Geological Society successfully secured as Guest of Honour and After Dinner Speaker, Professor Aubrey Manning, Emeritus Professor of Natural History, Edinburgh University, and television presenter. As part of the evening programme, the award for ‘Shell Student Essay Prize’ was presented to the winners.
