Online Journal Access
The Lyell Collection, created to mark the Geological Society of London's 200th anniversary in 2007, represents one of the largest integrated collections of online Earth science literature available. Bringing together Journal of the Geological Society, Quarterly Journal of Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology, Geochemistry: Exploration, Environment, Analysis, Scottish Journal of Geology, Journal of Micropalaeontology, Proceedings of the Yorkshire Geological Society, Transactions of the Geological Society, Special Publications and key book series on a single electronic platform, the Lyell Collection is a unique resource for researcher and student alike.
Fellows who subscribe to JGS, QJEGH or GEEA as their membership journal can obtain online access by clicking on the relevant journal link below:
Fellows requiring access to content to which they do not subscribe can still access articles by selecting the pay-per-view option, which is available for all Lyell Collection content.
For further details on Lyell Collection content that Fellows can access as part of their membership, please go to the Access for Fellows page.
Online access to Petroleum Geoscience is provided through the IngentaConnect website. Fellows who subscribe to PG as a membership journal can obtain access by going to www.ingentaconnect.com/content/geol/pg. This will take you to the login page. You will then need to register at IngentaConnect to activate your access rights, instructions for how to register are provided below. (Note: For other users there is a pay-per-view option)
First register with IngentaConnect by going to www.ingentaconnect.com and use the "Sign up here" link. Complete the "Personal registration" details and provide a username and password. You will be contacted by email to confirm your registration.
Once registered, go to Personal Subscriptions. Click on Add and then search for the journal name, select the relevant journal and supply your subscription number (this is your membership/Fellowship number — if you do not know your membership number please contact your member organisation. GSL Fellows should contact membership@geolsoc.org.uk). You will be contacted by email once your subscription has been verified and online access has been enabled.
If you have any questions about on-line access please check the FAQ listings on the IngentaConnect 'Help' page for an answer or contact IngentaConnect via the 'Help' page. (If you have forgotten your account password please contact IngentaConnect — Geological Society staff do not have access to your on-line account details).
Once you have logged in, navigation is straightforward; but you should note that there are two modes of access to the articles themselves.
If you select 'Delivery' with the left mouse button then you will launch Acrobat Reader within your browser (assuming that you have it installed) and the article will become viewable on-line after a short download time. (Note PDF files can be over a Megabyte in size and modem access is therefore not recommended if you have an alternative access route).
If you select 'Delivery' with the right mouse button then you will be able to download and save the article for offline viewing and printing, without launching Acrobat Reader at the time of access if you intend to download several articles for later reading this may be the better mode of access. Note that the default file names are rather long and cryptic; you are quite at liberty to change the name to something more obvious, but should retain the PDF extension.
