Permissions requests and policy
The Geological Society of London has a liberal view on the re-use of its published content for legitimate research, study, teaching and communication, provided its legitimate interests are not damaged in so doing. It is essential, however, that any party seeking permission to re-use content from the Lyell Collection makes a formal request to the Geological Society, and that the source of material is fully acknowledged.
The process of requesting and securing permission from the Lyell Collection is as follows:
The process of requesting and securing permission from the Lyell Collection is as follows:
- From the abstract, PDF or HTML display of the required material select “Permission request” from the “Services” at the top right area of the screen.
- A pre-populated form including the relevant bibliographic citation will be presented.
- The form should be completed in its entirety and submitted to the Geological Society for consideration.
- A member of Geological Society staff will acknowledge receipt of the request and a decision will follow, the outcome being dependent on permission policy at the time of request.
- Requests to re-use author material will also require author consent and this is a condition of permission being granted.
- Following the Geological Society’s conditional granting of permission, if the author has not responded to your request within four weeks consent can be assumed.
