Access for Fellows

Fellows of the Geological Society of London will enjoy a range of access benefits by virtue of their membership of the Society.

Journals

All Fellows are entitled to receive one free journal as part of their package of benifits, and those who opt to receive Journal of the Geological Society or Quarterly Journal of Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology will receive access to the full published extent of each title – back to 1845 in the case of JGS, and 1967 for QJEGH - via the Lyell Collection.

In addition, the electronic versions will be enhanced to include not only a PDF version of each paper, but also fully linked references enabling users to navigate from the journal article to other cited references (if these cited references are part of GeoScienceWorld or are hosted online by HighWire Press, users will receive access to the full text free of charge).

All articles published from 2000 onwards will be available in HTML format as well as PDF.

Fellows who subscribe to JGS or QJEGH as an additional journal will also have access to the full published extent of the title.  For 2008, this costs just £45 per additional journal.

Special Publications and books

In addition to their journal entitlement, Fellows will for the first time receive completely free access to the Society’s online Book Archive, which includes Special Publications, Engineering Geology Special Publications and Memoirs – with further series and titles to be added as the Lyell Collection develops. The Book Archive gives users access to all books and Special Publications published prior to the current or three previous calendar years without restriction and, once again, all references are actively linked through to the source of cited material.

From January 2008 Fellows will be able to subscribe to the Full Book Collection which extends electronic access to all book titles, from the time of publication. For a modest subscription fee (£55 for 2008) Fellows will receive access to all online titles and 8000+ new peer-reviewed pages every year. Print copies are not included in the Full Book Collection.

Pay-per-view access

Fellows requiring access to content to which they do not subscribe can still access articles by selecting the pay-per-view option, which is available for all Lyell Collection content.
