Document Delivery (Photocopying)
Photocopying and fax service
The photocopy request service is available to all Fellows of the Geological Society, both in the UK and overseas, and to employees of Corporate Affiliates.
This service is available to non-members. Please enquire before placing a request.
Requests for photocopies of material can be submitted by post or fax using the appropriate Photocopy Request Form, which must be completed and signed in advance of copies being supplied, to comply with copyright regulations. Please select one of the forms below. Charges apply. The brief guidance notes below may assist you in your choice of form.
Initial enquiries regarding availability of material are welcomed and advice on copyright can be given.
The majority of requests will supplied within one/two days of receipt. A 'Priority' service is available at an additional cost. Articles up to 30 pages in length may be faxed on request, subject to additional charges.

Photocopying – Guidance Notes
You will need to select the appropriate form for your request, depending on whether your copies are required for the purposes of commercial research or for non-commercial research or private study. A copyright fee of £9.00 (+ VAT) will be levied for each 'commercial' copy requested, in addition to the normal copying charge. The fee will be passed on to a collecting agency operating on behalf of the rights holders/publishers.
Some copyright material will be exempt from this charge, e.g. publications for which the Geological Society holds the copyright and those publications in the ‘public domain’ e.g. U.S. Geological Survey publications. Library staff are prohibited from copying some material for commercial purposes and where possible we will loan this material for readers to consult. The Copyright Licensing Agency and the British Library have provided some guidelines on what constitutes commercial copying.
A form must be completed and signed for each article requested for private research copies. Commercial copy requests can also be sent by email. You may wish to fill in your name and address on your master copy before making further copies of the form. Please quote your membership number or the name of the Corporate Affiliate company on the form after your name. A contact telephone number is also useful in case there is a problem with your request.
Forms may be faxed to the Library on 020 7439 3470.
