Library and Information Services

The Geological Society Library was founded in 1809 and provides support services to Fellows of the Society and employees of Corporate Affiliates. The Library contains over 300,000 volumes of books and serials, takes around 700 current serial titles and has a collection of over 40,000 maps. All aspects of the geological sciences are covered. A large proportion of stock is available for loan to Society Fellows within the UK (though for certain restrictions, see details of the Loans Service).

New in 2008 – online access to 40 e-journals

Elsevier titles Fellows can now access another four journals online from their own PC's in addition to 36 Elsevier earth science titles. Read more about online journal access or contact the Serials Librarian Eileen Jamieson for more information. 

Map GIS

GIS Map The library has an extensive collection of geological maps, some of which can be loaned out. Use the Map GIS to search the library’s map collection.

Library Additions & Disposals

Recent additions The latest Recent Additions List for new acquisitions in April & May 2008 is now available. In addition the Library has some duplicate books and journals available for sale. For details see the lists on the Books and Serials pages.
