Meeting Grants

The Geochemistry Group offers monetary contributions to support national and international meetings on geochemical topics being organised by sister scientific societies and groups. Organisers seeking support should download the application form and forward it to the Group Treasurer, normally at least 12 months before the proposed meeting is scheduled to take place.

Meetings recently sponsored

  • Geochemistry Group Research in Progress meeting: ‘New developments and novel applications in isotope geochemistry’ Burlington House, 3 March 2008. Download a pdf of the meeting report.
  • Geological Society Bicentennial Conference 10-12 Sept 2007. The Geochemistry group organised two sessions:
    • Geochemical proxies for environmental change - convened by Kym Jarvis and Ian Jarvis Invited presenter Prof Ian Fairchild, Univ of Birmingham.
    • Environmental impacts and methods for assessing contaminated land - convened by Kathryn Linge and Karen Hudson-Edwards
  • Frontiers in Mineral Sciences, Fitzwilliam College and the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK, 26–28 June 2007.

Student Bursaries

The Geochemistry group welcomes applications from postgraduate researchers registered at UK universities or research institutions to aid travel to a geochemistry meeting either in the UK or internationally. Students must meet the following criteria to be considered eligible:
  • The student must present either a talk or a poster. Oral papers will be given precedence.
  • The student’s research must fall within the remit of the Geochemistry Group
To apply, students should download the application form here and email it to the Secretary, along with a copy of their abstract in Microsoft word or rich text format.

While there are no application deadlines, students should submit their application as soon as possible and at least one month before the meeting’s deadline of registration. Effective deadlines for some larger meetings are listed below:
  • EGU General Assembly, Vienna, Austria, 13-18 April 2008. Application deadline: 12 March 2008.
  • Goldschmidt, Vancouver, Canada 13-18 July 2008. Application deadline: 12 June 2008.
  • International Geological Congress, Lillestrom, Norway, 5-14 August 2008. Application deadline: 4 July 2008.
Successful applicants are required to submit a brief report within three months of attendance of the meeting for possible publication on the Group’s website.
