Professor Marcel Arnould

It is with sadness that we note the passing of Professor Marcel Arnould, a past President of the IAEG, former head of the French National Engineering Geology Group and a good friend of British engineering geology, who died on Thursday 13 January 2011. The Engineering Group sends its condolences to the family.

Hans Cloos Medal 2010

The Engineering Group wishes to congratulate Professor Martin Culshaw on the award of the 2010 Hans Cloos Medal. According to the IAEG website, "The Hans Cloos Medal is the senior award presented by the IAEG and given to an engineering geologist of outstanding merit in commemoration of the 'founder of geomechanics '. The recipient is a person of international repute who has made a major contribution to engineering geology in written papers or to the development of engineering geology and/or the IAEG in their own area." Martin is the third UK winner following Bill Dearman and John Knill.
