The Bristol City Centre Flood Alleviation Tunnel is a scheme undertaken by Wessex Water to remove 57 properties from the flood register by April 2009. The discussion will describe the background to the scheme, the two main options considered, the procurement process, selection of the contractor and the design and construction of the scheme to date. The key feature of the project is the construction of an 800m long tunnel by drill and blast techniques below the University of Bristol to connect to the existing Northern Foul Water Interceptor Sewer which was constructed in the early nineties. The tunnel span is approximately 4m and the cover is up to 70m. The tunnel is being constructed through interbedded sandstone, limestone, siltstone and mudstone from the Quartzitic Sandstone Group and the Hotwells Group (Cromhall Sandstone Group).

Refreshements will be available at 5:30pm
