Environment Network
The Environment Network is an important new Geological Society initiative, launched in July 2011, that will promote and develop all aspects of environmental geoscience, putting environmental issues centre-stage within the Society and allowing geoscientists to claim their rightful place as authoritative and informed spokespeople on environmental matters.
As well as organising meetings, the Environment Network will also operate virtually – this page will be home to relevant material from across the Society’s website, links to relevant groups and organisations, debate and information about relevant activities. More content will be added here shortly, Watch this space!

Forthcoming Events
Water Futures, 6-7 March 2012 Venue: The Geological Society, London
The final preparations for the Water Futures meeting are well under way. A very exciting list of invited and keynote speakers are now available and a full programme will be published shortly. The meeting focuses on groundwater quality and availability and is targeting areas where hydrogeology rubs shoulders with wider Earth Science specialisms and broader concerns, including but not limited to: hydrocarbons, climate, mineralisation, environmental chemistry and sustainability. The programme is split into the four following themes to reflect such interdependencies: climate, energy, basin scale processes and societal challenges.
Issues relating to water quality and availability are critical for our long (or maybe even short!) term survival on the Blue Planet. These also happen to be issues where geoscientists can make a real difference. So please come along and support the meeting, and please encourage your students to do so too. They are the ones we particularly want to capture, inspire and encourage along a discovery trip to the planet’s water issues and make them see for themselves how they could also be part of the solutions.
