Sediment Image The remobilization and injection of mud and sand is both a response to and a control on fluid flow in sedimentary basins. Understanding fluid flow is the key to efficient and safe hydrocarbon exploration and to understanding the evolution of sedimentary basins. Sediment remobilisation and injection has implications for hydrocarbon exploration and production by impacting source, migration, reservoir, trap and seal aspects of the hydrocarbon system and poses potential drilling hazards. Currently, there is a poor understanding of sand and mud remobilization processes and associated focused fluid flow systems and perhaps an even worse understanding of the diagenetic impact of focused fluid flow and vice versa. This conference aims to bring together scientists from a variety of disciplines (geologists, geophysicists, geochemists) from both academic and industrial communities to present and discuss the state-of-the-art understanding of subsurface sediment remobilization and fluid flow in sedimentary basins. Suggested conference themes include but are not restricted to:
  • Surface expressions of subsurface sediment remobilization and fluid flow
  • Imaging of subsurface sediment remobilisation and fluid flow
  • Reservoir effects of subsurface sediment remobilisation and fluid flow
  • Process understanding of sediment remobilisation and fluid flow
  • Human impact on catastrophic fluid flow events
