Over the last 5 years the Central North Sea has seen the entry of a large number of
new players joining the major and large independent energy companies in exploring
for and developing hydrocarbons. Existing assets have been purchased by smaller
independent operators and new players eager to rejuvenate fields, develop dormant
oil and gas discoveries and conduct new exploration. This has been helped by
significant discoveries such as Buzzard (2000) and Jasmine (2006), in addition to
the rise in oil prices. New innovative techniques are being used to understand the
sub-surface and deplete reservoirs more effectively to maximize value.

Following on from the successful one day workshop held on the Southern Gas
Basin in 2007 this joint SPE/Geological Society, one day, informal workshop aimed to
encourage the sharing of understanding gained from exploration, development and
production activities in the Central North Sea between companies active in the basin.
