Job Overview

An independent E&P company currently seek a Senior Geophysicist to augment their exploration team in Stavanger to undertake geological evaluations for exploration new ventures and existing business ventures, and manage technical and professional relationships with government bodies and partners / competitors.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Knowledge of UKCS and Norwegian shelf regional geology and advantage.
  • An ability to run a project working with other companies within an AMI structure….essentially good influencing skills.
  • Participation in UK or Norwegian license rounds a distinct advantage. Demonstrate an ability to put a round application document together.
  • Good Kingdom suite software skills or other transportable UNIX based geophysical interpretation packages essential.
  • The processing and interpretation of geophysical data to produce structural maps of an area, prospect or discovery, which are geologically consistent.
  • Understanding of seismic attribute analysis with a demonstrated ability to apply the correct attribute analysis to reduce risk on prospects and plays.
  • Track record of managing seismic reprocessing and acquisition projects from planning to conclusion.
  • A knowledge of seismic data loading, PSDM creation, VSP analysis and generation of synthetics.
  • Good presentation / communication skills.


Person Specification

Requirements:
  • Greater than 10 years experience
  • Recent experience at the technical level rather than purely managerial.
  • Good interpersonal skills with an ability to take responsibility for projects and deliver products in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Well developed network within the industry to help deliver opportunities
Personal Skills:
  • Must demonstrate a desire to work the technical data but with an enthusiasm to take on extra responsibilities when required with the objective of possibly becoming the exploration manager.
  • Must be capable of operating in a small office environment. Demonstrate good interpersonal skills, communication essential, relaxed and affable nature.
  • Enjoys challenges in both professional and personal life.


Responsibilities

  • Undertake and manage JV and AMI relationships, work programs, regional and license evaluations and new venture business as part of companies desire to develop its Norwegian business.
  • Manage the planning, budgeting, processing and reprocessing of seismic data.
  • Identify and develop drillable prospect areas by acquiring, processing and interpreting seismic data.
  • Provide geophysical analysis and input for the evaluation of proven and prospective hydrocarbon accumulations in the Companies Norwegian operations.
  • Originate creative new venture ideas and analyses to identify new plays and opportunities.
  • Mentor and manage junior staff in the office to aid their career progression.
  • Provide a strong geophysical influence on the exploration team.
  • Functional responsibility for the workstation environment and ensue the geophysical database is maintained and updated regularly.
  • Must be able to integrate commercial considerations into technical evaluations.
