This lecture series has been organised by the Earth Science Teachers' Association (ESTA) and the North West Regional Group of the Geological Society, in conjunction with Manchester University, as a revision session for AS and A Level Geology students to enhance the information already learnt in the classroom.

These sessions are aimed at reinforcing classroom learning and are applicable to all Geology A level Syllabi.

AS Level

  • Cheshire Basin Groundwater and Sedimentary Rocks – Speaker TBC, Environment Agency
  • Plate Tectonics – Prof Iain Stimpson, University of Keele
  • Mass Movement – Prof Ernest Rutter, University of Manchester

A2 Level

  • Understanding Metamorphics – Prof John Wheeler, University of Liverpool
  • Interpreting Mapping (Mam Tor) - Prof Ernest Rutter, University of Manchester
  • Milankovitch Cycles – Dr Jaco Bass, University of Bangor

University Stalls

Universities will have stalls at this event to discuss course options.

The National Schools Geology Challenge

The lectures will be followed by regional heats for the 2015 Geological Society National Schools Geology Challenge. Heats take place all over the UK, with regional winners competing in the final at The Geological Society in London. Find out more about the Schools Geology Challenge
