The University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) is inviting applications for their 2015/16 programme of part-time Certificate and Diploma courses.

All of the courses listed below are taught part-time and lead to full University of Cambridge qualifications. Teaching takes place at Madingley Hall, a 16th-century country house near Cambridge set in 8 acres of landscaped grounds.

Undergraduate Certificate in Archaeology

October 2015 – June 2016

Saturday day schools.

Course fee: £1,800.

This course provides a thorough grounding in British archaeology, with units on ‘Prehistoric peoples’, covering the British Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age; and ‘Historic peoples’, covering the archaeology of Roman, Anglo-Saxon and Medieval Britain. It is open to everyone regardless of previous educational experience.

Undergraduate Certificate in Physical Sciences

October 2015 – July 2016

Wednesday evening sessions + 3 Saturday day schools.

Course fee: £1,800.

This course gives a broad overview of physical systems, drawing on a range of disciplines including molecular physics, astrophysics, materials science and geology. Students will gain an appreciation of the issues behind scientific and technical media reporting, and hands-on experience of carrying out experiments. The course includes a unit on geology, with a day-long geological field trip.

Undergraduate Diploma in Archaeology

October 2015 – June 2016

Wednesday evening sessions.

Course fee: £1,800.

An opportunity to extend and develop your archaeological knowledge and skills. This course deals with the history and theory of archaeology, 20th-century conflict archaeology, and archaeology and heritage.

Undergraduate Diploma in Historic Environment

October 2015 – June 2016

2 weekends per term.

Course fee: £2,175.

This course explores thematic aspects of the historic environment in depth. Topics include agricultural production and the man-made landscape; how status, power and belief have influenced the making of the British landscape; and how and why distinctively regional landscapes emerged.

Undergraduate Advanced Diploma in Archaeology

November 2015 – May 2017

8 supervisions + 1 induction day.

Course fee: £3,600.

These two-year courses give you the opportunity to pursue your own research project under the guidance of a Cambridge supervisor. They provide an excellent foundation in research methods for anyone wishing to pursue further study.
