Hydrogeology at the University of Birmingham
Event type:
Evening meeting
Organised by:
West Midlands Regional Group
Venue:
Atkins (The Axis), Birmingham
Event status:
EVENT CLOSED
The College of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Birmingham has proposed to “disinvest” in research and teaching in Hydrogeology. Issues that have been made public are that the Hydrogeology MSc Course will be closed after the current cohort complete their studies and all the hydrogeology academic and research staff are undergoing a “formal consultation process”. No further information has been disclosed by the University at present.
We understand that the proposal has been approved by the University and will be implemented unless new information presented during the ongoing formal consultation period (ending mid-December) is sufficiently persuasive to change their minds.
The aim of the meeting is to convene an audience of hydrogeological professionals from a wide range of industries/sectors in order to discuss the University's proposal and co-ordinate/ synchronise our collective and/or individual responses in support of the continuation of hydrogeology research and teaching at the University.
Time
Refreshments will be available from 6.00pm onwards with the meeting commencing 6.30pm
Venue
Atkins (the Axis) Birmingham. 10 Holliday Street. B1 1TF

*Alumni of the MSc course are welcome to join the LinkedIn Group Brummies Masters of Hydrogeology run by Doug Brown in Perth. There are currently in excess of 90 members and it would be good to see more Brummies signing up. There are ongoing discussions on the Group regarding developments at UoB, so it is a good way to keep in touch.
