Oil exploration in Southeast England has been in the news in recent years … so what is the situation with oil and gas exploration and production in the region?

This evening's talk will look at the geology of petroleum, go into the characteristic types of oil and gas discovery that have been made and comment on the current exploration efforts.

Speaker

Dr Chris Johns (Johns Geoconsulting Limited)

Dr Johns graduated from Leicester University, completed his PhD field mapping in Norway and then joined the Zambian Geological Survey where he worked on regional mapping, coal and hydrocarbon exploration.  He then had a short spell mapping in the UAE before settling back in the UK.

He joined the petroleum consultancy, Scott Pickford, initially working on exploration projects then moving into development geology, working on field studies, valuations and unitisation disputes.  In 2001 he joined Premier Oil as Chief Development Geologist and subsequently became Chief Geoscientist. He is now semi-retired, consulting in the petroleum industry.
