The Radford Canal Festival is a celebration of the reawakening of the Somerset Coal Canal. See details of the restoration project.
Boats have not reached Radford since 1898, 117 years ago, yet on the 4th of July we shall be showing off a section of real, navigable, canal along with a host of canoes and rafts, and maybe some bigger boats too!
It’s not just about canals and boats though, the festival will also host a wealth of live music, story telling, country dancing, children’s entertainments etc, as well as a wide variety of stalls and refreshments. Alongside this the festival will present a celebration of
William Smith, the engineer for the Coal Canal, who created the science of Geology when he published the first geological map of England in 1815. See if you can spot him wandering around the site in his Regency outfit!
Held at Radford Mill, deep in the beautiful Somerset countryside, you can enjoy a walk along a canal which, as recently as last summer, was lost to view.
Camping will be be available from Friday night; entertainment runs until late Sunday afternoon.
