Professional development day for those on teaching-focused contracts

An event convened by the RGS-IBG for early (post PhD) or mid-career academics employed in teaching-focused posts in GEES disciplines who are considering how to further develop their professional position.  The event will enable you to meet colleagues from a range of institutions, share ideas and experiences and develop a personal action plan.

  • 10.30am to 4.00pm

  • £20 (includes lunch)

Programme (provisional)

The day will be co-convened by Professor Pauline Kneale (Plymouth University) and Dr Fiona Smyth (University of Manchester)
Sessions will include (please note these may be subject to change):
  • Welcome and introduction
  • Mapping the issues, what matters to me
  • Making and taking opportunities, being flexible in a fast moving world
  • Where do I want to be and when?, setting smart personal targets
  • Promotion within institutions, how to get to Associate Professor and Professor
  • Opportunities outside the academic sphere
  • Pulling plans together
