This two-day discussion meeting is being organized to provide members of the UK Quaternary research community working in southern South America (SSA) with an opportunity to showcase and discuss their work with a broad but regionally-focused audience.

A series of sessions on specific research areas (e.g. glacial, palaeo-environment and climates) and sub-regions (e.g. Tierra del Fuego, the Chilean Lake District) will be hosted, followed by 30-45 minute discussion rounds. In addition a 2-hour workshop will cover recent technique-specific developments (e.g. dating), which will be useful for non-specialists and early career researchers. Frank Lamy (AWI-Bremerhaven, Germany) will be providing a cross-disciplinary keynote lecture on current and future directions for research in southern South America.

This meeting will be used to set an agenda for SSA Quaternary research, building upon and further developing the UK Quaternary research community’s leading position in this region. The conference will act as a forum for discussion, in order for the group to identify key knowledge-gaps, devise future research strategies and initiate new multi-institutional collaborations.

Cost

The conference registration cost is £45 per delegate (£27 for postgraduates / unwaged).

An optional conference dinner will be held on Tuesday, 2 June, at a cost of £30 per person.
