This exciting one day workshop, with additional optional field trip to Dartmoor, will introduce female A level students to the Earth Sciences and demonstrate the world of careers open to Earth science graduates today.
With seminars from women working in Geology, and hands on workshops looking at GIS, microfossils and planetary geology, this year’s Girls into Geoscience event isn’t one to miss.

09:30: Arrival and refreshments
Morning session (talks)
10:00: Welcome and introduction (Dr Sarah Boulton, Plymouth University)
10:15: Geophysics and seismic acquisition (Claire Jennings, Aquageo)
10:45: Break
11:00: Mineral processing - a career in bubbles (Kathryn Haddler, Grinding Solutions and Imperial College, London)
11:30: Hydrothermal circulation and ocean drilling (Dr Michelle Harris, Plymouth University)
12:00-13:00: Lunch and University tours
Afternoon session (workshops) - choose two workshops from:
- Faults in Google Earth (GIS) (Dr Sarah Boulton)
- Microfossils and climate (Dr Jodie Fisher and Dr Debbie Wall-Palmer)
- Reconstructing geological time (Dr Meriel Fitzpatrick)
- Planetary geology: interplanetary fieldwork (Dr Natasha Stephen).
