This talk will discuss the role of the geological map (including an introduction to the Grandfather of geology - William Smith) as well as the BGS in the 21st Century.
Most of us are well aware of the paper map copies we have all relied up, however there are many other additional tools which have been developed such as the 3D mapping of Anglesey, availability of borehole scans, iGeology. It may also surprise you to know that there are 2 No. areas of the UK which have never been mapped in detail. Andrew will also be sharing his experience as our regional geologist.
This will be a great introduction for geology students, as well as professional geologists with an interest in the history of our chosen subject as well as understanding where geological mapping is heading. Further detail on the event is available in the flyer.
