The Metamorphic Studies Group is holding the 2015 Field Workshop to the Shetland Islands. Organised by Rob Strachan (Portsmouth), Anna Bird (Hull) and Steph Walker (Royal Holloway), this workshop promises something of interest to all.  The workshop will start and finish in Lerwick.

Itinerary

Day 1: North Roe: Neoarchaean basement and Neoproterozoic reworking

Day 2: Fethaland: Moine-like metasediments and metabasic intrusions. The Walls Boundary Fault

Day 3: Lunna Ness: c.930 Ma upper amphibolite facies migma- tites and kyanite bearing Dalradian

Day 4: Yell: Moine-like metasediments, c.960 Ma orthogneisses and gt-px bearing Archaean basement

Day 5: Metamorphic footwall of the Unst Ophiolite, and related oceanic lithologies

Day 6: Metamorphic sole of the ophiolite on Fetlar and the Funzie conglomerate

Day 7: Dalradian metamorphics of Mainland Shetland

Cost

The total cost of the trip will depend on the number of participants but will include 6 nights accommodation and all transport on Shetland.  It is the participants responsibility to organise travel to and from Lerwick.  Student bursaries are available from the Metamorphic Studies Group - please contact Clare Warren for further information.
