EVENT CLOSED

Registration and abstract submission to the 2016 UK Metamorphic Studies Group meeting is now open!

The meeting will be preceded by a Geochronology Workshop organised by the NERC Isotope Geoscience Labs.  This workshop is aimed at PhD students and early career researchers although anyone is welcome. There will be a “meta-curry” in Nottingham following the workshop.

The unofficial theme for this year’s MSG meeting is “metamorphism is not all about pseudosections!”.  We therefore encourage presentations on all aspects of “change in rocks”, be they mineralogical, deformational, fluid-mediated or whatever.  We also encourage submissions that link to the Geological Society’s “Year of Water” theme.

Student presentations are particularly encouraged at the MSG meeting.  Students presenting at the meeting and who are studying at a UK/Irish university will be eligible to apply for travel grants to attend conferences.

AGM

The AGM will be held after lunch during the Research in Progress meeting on Tuesday 15th March.  The committee is looking for two new regular members plus a new Chair.  Anyone with an interest in metamorphic geology based in the UK may sit on the committee; we expect the Chair to have had previous MSG committee experience. Please send nominations/seconds for any of the posts to the Secretary, Clare Warren, at [email protected] before 12pm Monday 14th March 2016.  Nominations may also be seconded at the AGM by anyone there present.  If there are multiple nominations for the same post, an election will be held.

The current committee comprises: Chair (Nigel Harris, OU); Secretary (Clare Warren, OU); Treasurer (Emilie Bruand, Portsmouth); Regular members (Peter Treloar, Kingston; Dave Waters, Oxford; Tom Argles, OU; Kate Brodie, Manchester; Anna Bird, Hull; Ivan Savov, Leeds; Nick Roberts, NIGL; Luca Menegon, Plymouth).
