The 10th Workshop of the International Lithosphere Program on Sedimentary Basins

Following the previous successful meetings of the ILP Task Force on Sedimentary Basins held in Paris (2005), Quebec (2006), Morocco (2007), Ensenada (Baja California, (2008), AbuDhabi (2009), Tirana (2010), Cape Town (2011), Brisbane (2012) and Marseille (2013), the 2014 workshop of this task force will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from 16-20 November 2014.

The conference presentations and discussions will be held on 16-18 November at King Abdulaziz University and hosted by the Faculty of Earth Sciences.

A two-day post-conference field trip (19-20 November) is planned around Jeddah on the Arabian Shield, aiming to observe and outline the tectonic events and structural styles in Wadi Fatima around Jeddah on the Arabian shield and along the Red sea coast.

Key notes dealing with important themes involving international teams are programmed covering a wide spectrum of ongoing researches both from Academic and Industry perspectives.

Contributions linking deep and shallow processes in sedimentary basins of the Arabian peninsula plate and surrounding areas are welcomed, together with works and papers dealing with Geohazards related to structural behaviour, tectonic evolution, seismicity and volcanic activity.

The Task Force on Sedimentary Basins of the International Lithosphere Programme promotes dialogue between researchers studying basin fill and behaviour with those investigating deeper lithospheric structures, as well as with those developing numerical and analogue experiments and modelling of basin processes. Therefore we welcome contributions analyzing the structure and physical properties of the basins and of their underlying crust and mantle, as well as the interactions between deep earth and surface processes, i.e., thermicity, phase-transitions, fluid circulations and transfers, fluid-rock interactions as major governing factors controlling fracturation, and the implications of these interactions for basin dynamics.

The Arabian plate and related areas is a region with a large variety of tectonic settings including passive, active and transform margins, exhibiting different structural styles and basin histories. Moreover the sediment fill was additionally influenced by salt tectonics, uplifting and inversion movements and recorded by the sedimentary cover.

We particularly encourage studies that aim to decipher the superposed signals resulting from deep and shallow levels as for example influences induced by deeper lithospheric levels, by the presence of a decoupling salt layer or by migrating fluids of various compositions.
