Led by Dr Annette McGrath, the course provides a thorough introduction to the geology of Scotland, provided via:

  • A series of PowerPoint presentations,
  • A practical session to look at a large selection of rocks, minerals, fossils, thin sections and geological maps from the Scotland.
  • A large selection of rocks, minerals and fossils from around the world are also available for students to handle.
  • The PowerPoint presentations work chronologically forward in time from the Precambrian (Lewisian) through to the present day. Palaeogeographic maps and cross sections are presented for each time period, alongside relevant photos, diagrams and geological maps from across Scotland.
