The joint National Final for the annual National Schools Geology Challenge and the Early Career Geologist Award will be held at Burlington House on 3 May. Heats are organised all over the UK through our network of Regional Groups, and the winners go forward to the Final.

Spectators are very welcome to attend (please note that lunch is for participants only).

National Schools Geology Challenge

The National Schools Geology Challenge is now in its 6th year.

Teams of science, geography and geology students produce a themed poster, develop a 5 minute presentation on their chosen (geology related) topic to a panel of leading geologists from academia and industry and complete in a geology quiz. Aimed at years 12/13 (England and Wales), 13/14 (Northern Ireland) or S5/S6 (Scotland), the Challenge is a an excellent opportunity for students to enhance their UCAS applications. Students also benefit from watching professional geoscientists taking part in our Early Career Geologist Award talk about their work.

Early Career Geologist Award

To recognise the work of geoscientists in the early stages of their careers, the Geological Society runs the Early Career Geologist award. This competition is open to all Fellows with less than 10 years post graduate experience, who are working towards Chartership. 

Taking part is a great way to enhance your communication skills and demonstrate your understanding of a particular geological topic to an audience.
