Event status:
EVENT CLOSED

Organised with the Royal Microscopical Society.

A one day workshop discussing existing and new techniques used in the preparation and storage of geo-materials initially examined by light and scanning electron microscopy.

The preparation of high quality petrographic sections is essential for understanding mineral and fabric relationships and in establishing the petrogenesis and provenance of a sample. The manufacturing process relies upon an accurate understanding of the composition and physical properties of the minerals and other components present. High quality sections and surfaces are critical for a range of high resolution analytical techniques and imaging.

This workshop is aimed at:

  1. geo-technologists who are regularly required to produce petrographic sections;
  2. scientists who employ analytical techniques that require high quality sections and surfaces;
  3. curators and preparators who are required to conserve and preserve historical and valuable collections of petrographic sections.
